Resin flooring is known for being easy to maintain. This is mainly because they have a seamless design, there are no cracks or edges in them like you would find with tiled floors. However, just like with everything else, there are a couple of things you should keep in mind about their maintenance. We have put a list together of a few handy tips for caring for your resin flooring in a commercial or industrial space.
Create a cleaning schedule.
If your resin floors have wayfinding markings within them, or other markings marking our safety zones for industrial spaces such as warehouses and factories with dangerous machinery, you must ensure that this is clean and visible. It should be cleaned more often than regular areas which are seldom. Also, optimal slip resistance is maintained with regular cleaning.
For large areas, the use of scrubber dryer machines is recommended.
Use appropriate brushes.
It’s best to try avoid hard nylon brushes if possible when cleaning your resin floor, as there is a risk they might damage the surface. Remember to clean your brushes and mops once used too, otherwise you will just be redistributing the dirt you picked up on previous cleans.
Check your cleaning chemicals.
Make sure the cleaning products you’re using are appropriate for resin floors – most should be fine as they are resistant to a lot of chemicals, but there is no harm in double checking. Avoid cleaners containing citrus, acids or vinegar as these can break down the epoxy catalyst.
If an area needs to be slip resistant, you should avoid using any cleaners that are oil based or leave a greasy residue. This could possibly reverse the anti-slip characteristic of the floor.
Removing scuff marks and stains.
To keep your resin floors looking best, remove any scuff marks or stains. There are cleaning materials available specifically for resin floors that remove marks left by line marking tape, tyres, oils etc.
Be careful with new floors.
Most resin floors that have just been laid need to be left to cure for as long as possible before any attempt to clean them. Generally, the resin is approximately 95% cured during the first three days with the remaining 5% occurring within seven days.
Avoid adding your own polishes and seals.
You shouldn’t use your own polishes and seals on anti-slip or anti-static resin floors. They can negatively impact the slip-resistance or the anti-static value of the floor.
Clean up chemical spillages promptly.
These should be cleaned up quickly using suitable equipment and disposed of properly. You shouldn’t let any spillages remain on the resin floor for prolonged periods to avoid damage/stains.
