Epoxy Resin Flooring Polyurethane flooring: FAQs

Polyurethane flooring aka ‘polyurethane screed’ is an industrial flooring solution that is well known for its durability and strength. If you are looking to get one for your business, then there is no doubt that you will have questions. We have answered some of the most commonly asked below:

Where is polyurethane screed used?

Polyurethane screeds are very versatile, they can be used in pretty much all industrial and commercial environments. They are hard-wearing, strong, and durable so are ideal for spaces where there are heavy traffic and impact. They also have excellent chemical resistance so can be used in areas where there is a likelihood of chemical spillages.

Polyurethane screeds are perfect for industries such as aerospace engineering, food and beverage manufacturing and kitchens, pharmaceutical, offshore, warehouses and more.

How long do polyurethane screeds last?

Polyurethane screeds are usually guaranteed for 10 years in tough industrial environments. When you choose this flooring, you can be assured that it is a great investment which won’t need replacing for a very long time.

Can I install a polyurethane floor myself?

If you want a polyurethane flooring installed correctly, then it is best to call in a professional. If you do this yourself, you will only end up having to make repairs, or have it relaid in a short period. This is not only a waste of your money but also a waste of your time. If you would like to enquire about a polyurethane flooring solution, get in touch with us at REME today. Our team can provide you with high-quality, professional installation.

What is the difference between polyurethane and epoxy flooring?

Polyurethane offers a few unique advantages. This includes:

  • UV stability – There are Polyurethane floor coatings that will not yellow over time with UV exposure as epoxy resin does. They can also be used as a topcoat over epoxy to protect this from happening.

  • Advanced chemical resistance Polyurethane flooring will have a broader range of chemical resistance. It is also very resistant to damage from hot or cold tires.

  • Advanced abrasion and impact resistance – polyurethane has excellent resistance to this type of damage.

Epoxies are the preferred choice when it comes to priming a substrate, however. So, when it comes to comparing epoxy and polyurethane the important thing to keep in mind is that both of them work well in conjunction with each other to create a long-lasting flooring solution.
